วันขึ้น ๑๕ ค่ำ เดือน ๘ นับได้ว่าเป็นวันสำคัญวันหนึ่งในประวัติศาสตร์แห่งพระพุทธศาสนา “อาสาฬห” แปลว่า เดือน ๘ ทางจันทรคติ ผนวกกับคำว่า “บูชา” แปลว่า การบูชาเพื่อรำลึกถึงเหตุการณ์อันสำคัญที่เกิดขึ้นในเดือน ๘ หรือที่เรียกว่า อาสาฬหบูชา
