Louis Vuitton…..agreed to build a base to place Buddha head in the art exhibition in France
With regard to the progress of the campaign against Louis Vuitton Art Exhibition, Knowing Buddha Organization has launched a campaign to successfully gather over 6,000 signatures of supporters to petition against the use of Buddha head in the art exhibition as we found out that the Buddha head was placed on the exhibition floor without any fences to keep the distance between the visitors and the Buddha head and this caused disrespectful action toward the Buddha head including taking photos improperly. Recently, Louis Vuitton Foundation has agreed to build a base to place Buddha head on. This is considered a success of all Buddhists after months of working and monitoring on Louis Vuitton disrespectful case.
The success is the result of Buddhists’ voices and the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Master Acharavadee Wongsakon, the president of Knowing Buddha Organization, stated as follows.
“Louis Vuitton’s action to build a base to place Buddha head is acceptable to some extent. However, what they should do is to remove the Buddha head from the art exhibition because placing Buddha head for such purpose is appropriate. We would like to ask both domestic and international organizers, companies and organizations to take this issue to carefully consider about the use of religious symbols or things that deserve respect for commercial or art purpose because even the global brand fails to care about other people’s feelings which leads to the lack of public awareness in the society.”
In early June, KBO sent a letter to both regional and Thailand office of Louis Vuitton, the exhibition organizer, the artist and Thai embassy in France to request them to remove a piece of artwork from the art exhibition of eleven Chinese artists because such artwork is a gigantic eroded inclined Buddha head that was placed on the exhibition floor. KBO also sent a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ask them to help stop the disrespectful art exhibition. Moreover, a representative of the organization arranged a meeting with the following officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to clarify the issue.

We were informed about the progress of the case as follows.
After the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had received information from KBO, they forwarded the issue to H.E. Mr. Seehasak Puangkatekaew, Ambassador of Thailand to France, in Paris, France. The ambassador has proceeded as follows.
On 8 June 2016, the ambassador sent an officer to Louis Vuitton Foundation and found the disrespectful artwork as claimed. He, then, informed Louis Vuitton regarding Thai concern, asked them to reconsider their action and suggested the proper placement of the Buddha head. The officer also asked the exhibition organizer to place the Buddha head on a base or in a way that does not dishonor Buddha. Furthermore, the embassy issued an official letter to ask them to proceed according to our suggestion on 17 June 2016.
On 27 June 2016, Mr. Joachim Monegier du Sorbier, Director of Public informed the embassy that the foundation has proceeded according to Thai request.
The president of KBO reiterated that this issue should serve as a case study for those who work on artworks and designs because “Art cannot overcome good awareness. It has to lie on the basis of respect to others. If not so otherwise, it would be only an excuse to perform to one's own desire.”

หลุยส์ วิตตอง...ยอมถอย
สร้างฐานเพื่อวางเศียรพระพุทธรูปขึ้นจัดแสดงในนิทรรศการศิลปะ ประเทศฝรั่งเศส
ถือเป็นความสำเร็จของชาวพุทธศาสนิกชนทุกคน หลังจากที่ทีมงานองค์กรฯ ได้ทำงาน ติดตาม ประสานงานอย่างต่อเนื่องกรณีลบ หลู่ดังกล่าวนานนับเดือน ตามคำชี้แจงความคืบหน้าเป็นระยะ ๆ ไปแล้วนั้น บัดนี้.หลังจากที่โนอิ้ง บุดด้า ได้รณรงค์ชาวพุทธกว่า 6,000 คนเรียกร้องกดดัน ให้ผู้จัดงานยกเลิกการแสดงผลงานชิ้นนี้ หลังพบว่าเศียรพระพุทธรูปถูกนำมาแสดง โดยวางไว้บนพื้นระดับเดียวกับคนเดิน โดยไม่มีรั้วกั้น ส่งผลให้มีผู้เดินเฉียดผ่านไปมา และถ่ายรูปกับพระเศียรในลักษณะที่ขาดความเคารพยำเกรง ต่อสัญลักษณ์ทางพระพุทธศาสนา
ความสำเร็จดังกล่าวเกิดจากเสียงของชาวพุทธ และการได้รับการประสานเข้าแก้ไข อย่างจริงจัง โดยกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ประธานมูลนิธิโนอิ้ง บุดด้า อัจฉราวดี วงศ์สกล กล่าวว่า “สิ่งที่หลุยส์ วิตตอง ได้ปรับสร้างฐานรองพระเศียร ถือว่ายอมรับได้ในระดับหนึ่ง แต่สิ่งที่ควรทำคือเอาพระเศียรออกไปจากการแสดง เพราะถึงอย่างไร การวางเศียรพระในลักษณะนั้นก็ถือไม่สมควร ขอให้ทางผู้จัดงาน รวมทั้งบริษัทและหน่วยงานต่างๆ ทั้งในประเทศและระดับโลกเอาเรื่องนี้เป็นกรณีตัวอย่างในการพิจารณาอย่างถ้วนถี่ ถึงความเหมาะสมในการจะนำสัญลักษณ์ทางศาสนาใดๆ หรือสิ่งที่ควรเคารพมาใช้เพื่อการค้าหรืองานศิลปะ เพราะแม้แต่แบรนด์ระดับโลก ก็ยังละเลยในการคำนึงถึงความรู้สึกของผู้อื่น ซึ่งเป็นการชี้นำสังคมให้ขาดจิตสำนึกสาธารณะ ”
เมื่อช่วงต้นเดือนมิถุนายนที่ผ่านมา มูลนิธิโนอิ้ง บุดด้าได้ส่งจดหมายถึงสำนักงาน หลุยส์ วิตตอง ในประเทศไทยและภูมิภาค ฝ่ายจัดงานนิทรรศการ รวมทั้งตัวศิลปิน และสถานทูตไทยในกรุงปารีส ขอให้พิจารณาเอาผลงานชิ้นหนึ่งออกไปจากการแสดงในงานนิทรรศการผลงานศิลปินชาวจีน 11 คน เนื่องจากผลงานชิ้นนั้นเป็นรูปปั้นเศียรพระพุทธรูปยักษ์ในลักษณะที่ผุกร่อนและเอียงกระเท่เร่วางอยู่บนพื้นนั้นและได้ส่งจดหมายประสานไปยังกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ เพื่อขอให้ช่วยระงับยับยั้งการแสดงนิทรรศการ ในลักษณะที่ไม่เหมาะสมอย่างยิ่ง ทางมูลนิธิได้ส่งตัวแทนเข้าชี้แจงกับผู้บริหารของกระทรวงการต่างประเทศโดยตรง ในวันที่ 22 มิถุนายน 2559 ที่ผ่านมา โดยมี
คุณรุจ โสรัตน์ ผู้อำนวยการกองการทูตวัฒนธรรม กรมสารนิเทศ
คุณสรยศ คำบันลือ นักการทูต คณะเลขาธิการ รัฐมนตรีกระทรวงต่างประเทศ
และได้รับทราบความคืบหน้าในการประสานงานผ่านทางกระทรวงต่าง ประเทศ เมื่อกระทรวงฯ ได้รับเรื่องจากทางมูลนิธิ ก็ได้แจ้งไปยังท่านสีหศักดิ์ พวงเกตุแก้ว เอกอัครราชทูตไทย ประจำประเทศฝรั่งเศส และท่านทูตได้ดำเนินการแก้ไขโดย..
วันที่ 8 มิถุนายน 2559 ท่านทูตได้ส่งเจ้าหน้าที่ไป ยังมูลนิธิ หลุยส์ วิตตอง ณ สถานที่ที่จัดแสดงและพบการจัดวางพระเศียรวางไม่เหมาะสมจริง และได้แจ้งให้ทางหลุยส์ วิตตอง ถึงข้อห่วงกังวลของทางไทย ให้ทางผู้บริหารมูลนิธิทราบและพิจารณาว่าจะทำอย่างไร รวมถึงแนะนำให้ปรับการจัดวางให้เหมาะสม โดยในการเจรจานั้น ทางผู้แทนขอให้ผู้จัดงานนำเศียรพระพุทธรูป จัดแสดงบนฐานหรือในลักษณะที่เป็นการไม่ลบหลู่เกียรติพระศาสดา และได้ส่งหนังสือถึงพิพิธภัณฑ์เมื่อวันที่ 17 มิถุนายน ขอให้ดำเนินการตามที่ได้เสนอแนะ
วันที่ 27 มิถุนายน นาย Joachim Monegier du Sorbier, Director of Public ได้แจ้งสถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ ทางอีเมล์ว่าทางมูลนิธิได้ทำตามข้อเสนอแนะของทางไทยแล้ว
ประธานมูลนิธิกล่าว พร้อมทั้งย้ำว่า เรื่องนี้ควรถือเป็นกรณีศึกษาสำหรับผู้ที่ทำงานด้านการออกแบบ และงานศิลป์ทุกประเภทเช่นกัน เพราะศิลปะจะอยู่เหนือจิตสำนึกที่ดีงามไม่ได้ ศิลปะจะต้องอยู่บนพื้นฐานของความเคารพผู้อื่น หาไม่แล้ว เป็นเพียงข้ออ้างในการแสดงออก เพื่อสนองตัณหาของตนเท่านั้น”
ทางองค์กรโนอิ้ง บุดด้า ขอขอบคุณการประสานงานของเจ้าหน้าที่กระทรวงการต่างประเทศ, ท่านสีหศักดิ์ พวงเกตุแก้ว เอกอัครราชทูตไทย ประจำประเทศฝรั่งเศสและทีมงานทุกท่าน ที่ได้มุ่งมั่นแสดงออกถึงความตั้งใจในการแก้ปัญหาอย่างจริงจัง ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการลงไปดูพื้นที่จัดแสดงนิทรรศการ จนทำให้เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงในทางที่ดีขึ้นอย่างเป็นรูปธรรม
