(โปรดอ่านภาษาไทยด้านล่าง) . 6 April 1782 was the day that Phra PhutthaYodfa Chulalok Maharaj (Rama I), His Majesty was crowned the first King of the Chakri dynasty. He established Bangkok as the capital of Thailand since then. With regard to his grace, later in the reign of King Rama 6, the king has named 6th April “Chakri Day” which is the day that commemorates the great Chakri dynasty. . At the end of Krung Thonburi period, King Somdej Chao Phraya Maha Kasat Suek was crowned the first King of Chakri dynasty at the age of 46. His Highness graciously moved the capital city from the former Krung Thon Buri which is on the west bank of Chao Phraya River to the east bank of Chao Phraya River and bestowed the name of the new city whose current name is “Krung Thep Maha Nakhon Amorn Rattanakosin Mahindarayuthaya Mahadilokpop Nopparat Ratchathani Burirom Udom Ratchaniwet Mahasathan Amonpiman Avatar Sathit Sakkatattiya Vishnukam Prasit” or briefly called “Bangkok”. . After His Majesty had ascended the throne for only 3 years, the country was still in dangers of wars. The main battle was the nine-troop-war that King Padung of Burma’s Alongpaya dynasty had deployed nine large troops in all directions. Aiming to hit Rattanakosin Kingdom with more military force than those of Siam’s. However, with the ingenuity of Phra PhutthaYodfa Chulalok Maharaj making the country safe from the dangers of wars and the country began to be peaceful. . During the reign of King Rama II, the country was peaceful from wars. Phrabat Somdej Phra Phutthaloetla Naphalai (Rama II), therefore, had revived various arts and sciences to prosper, also improved the laws governing the country that were beneficial to the people during his reign. . Every King of Rattanakosin period has continued to develop the country for the well-being of the people and for the nation’s security and solidarity with great perseverance and sacrifice for peace, allowing people to have prosperity equal with many civilized countries along with the prosperity of Dhamma on the land of Dhamma, golden land, until the present day. . On the occasion of the commemoration of the Great Chakri Royal Family this year, may the Thai people which all have received the royal grace embrace it and show gratitude by giving alms, holding the precepts, practicing meditation, and offer them as a royal sacrifice to every King of Chakri dynasty. .

Reference: Ministry of Culture Website Translation: Krittiya Teerachaichayut -------- วันจักรี วันที่ระลึกถึงมหาจักรีบรมราชวงศ์ . วันที่ 6 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2325 เป็นวันที่พระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลกมหาราช เสด็จปราบดาภิเษกเป็นปฐมกษัตริย์แห่งราชวงศ์จักรี และทรงสร้างกรุงเทพมหานคร เป็นเมืองหลวงของไทยมาจนทุกวันนี้ ด้วยพระมหากรุณาธิคุณดังกล่าว ต่อมาในรัชกาลที่ 6 โปรดเกล้าโปรดกระหม่อมให้เรียกวันที่ 6 เมษายนว่า “วันจักรี” ซึ่งเป็นวันที่ระลึกถึงมหาจักรีบรมราชวงศ์ . เมื่อสิ้นสุดรัชสมัยกรุงธนบุรี สมเด็จเจ้าพระยามหากษัตริย์ศึกได้ขึ้นปราบดาภิเษกเป็นปฐมกษัตริย์แห่งราชวงศ์จักรี ขณะที่มีพระชนมายุ 46 พรรษา พระองค์โปรดเกล้าฯ ให้ย้ายราชธานีจากกรุงธนบุรีราชธานีเดิมที่อยู่ฝั่งตะวันตกของแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยามายังฝั่งตะวันออกของแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา และพระราชทานนามพระนครแห่งใหม่ ซึ่งมีชื่อในปัจจุบันว่า "กรุงเทพมหานคร อมรรัตนโกสินทร์ มหินทรายุธยา มหาดิลกภพ นพรัตนราชธานีบุรีรมย์ อุดมราชนิเวศน์มหาสถาน อมรพิมานอวตารสถิต สักกะทัตติยวิษณุกรรมประสิทธิ์" หรือเรียกอย่างสังเขปว่า "กรุงเทพมหานคร" . เมื่อพระองค์เสด็จขึ้นครองราชย์เพียง 3 ปี บ้านเมืองยังมีภัยจากศึกสงคราม ศึกที่สำคัญคือ สงคราม 9 ทัพ ที่พระเจ้าปดุงแห่งราชวงศ์อลองพญาของพม่าได้จัดทัพใหญ่มา 9 ทัพในทุกทิศทาง หมายมั่นจะตีกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ ด้วยกำลังทหารมากกว่าของสยามประเทศ แต่ด้วยพระปรีชาสามารถของพระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลกมหาราช ทำให้บ้านเมืองรอดพ้นจากภัยสงครามมาได้ ในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 2 บ้านเมืองเริ่มมีความสงบ พระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธเลิศหล้านภาลัยจึงทรงฟื้นฟูศิลปวิทยาการต่าง ๆ ให้มีความเจริญรุ่งเรือง ทรงฟื้นฟูประเพณีวันวิสาขบูชา ทรงปรับปรุงกฎหมายในการปกครองประเทศที่เอื้อประโยชน์แก่ประชาชน เช่น ลดเวลาในการเข้ามารับราชการของไพร่จาก 6 เดือน เป็น 3 เดือน เป็นต้น . พระมหากษัตริย์แห่งกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ทุก ๆ พระองค์ได้ทรงสืบสาน พัฒนาประเทศ เพื่อความเป็นอยู่ที่ดีของราษฎร และความมั่นคงเป็นปึกแผ่นของประเทศ ด้วยความวิริยะ อุตสาหะ และเสียสละเป็นอย่างยิ่ง เพื่อความสงบสุข ร่มเย็น ให้พสกนิกรมีความเจริญทัดเทียมกับนานาอารยประเทศไปพร้อม ๆ กับความเจริญในธรรม บนแผ่นดินธรรม แผ่นดินทอง สืบเนื่องมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน . เนื่องในโอกาสวันที่ระลึกถึงมหาจักรีบรมราชวงศ์ในปีนี้ ขอเชิญชาวไทยทุกท่าน ซึ่งล้วนเป็นผู้ที่ได้รับพระมหากรุณาธิคุณ น้อมรำลึกถึงพระมหากรุณาธิคุณ และบำเพ็ญกุศลด้วยการให้ทาน รักษาศีล ปฏิบัติภาวนา น้อมถวายเป็นพระราชกุศลแด่พระมหาษัตริย์ราชวงศ์จักรีทุก ๆ พระองค์
